Abby is an average girl that doesn’t seem anything special. She doesn’t recall much about her past, but believes the only family she has is a man she calls Uncle Ben. She does have the ability to read people’s futures. One night, Abby’s average life changes when she decides to take the train instead of a cab. A mysterious man named Zero, who she feels safe with, saves her from a strange man. After that night, Zero keeps showing up and saving her.
She soon discovers that she and Zero shared a past. She finds out Zero is a wolf demon, the ability to change from human to wolf and she is a Lyking, who has mental powers. She realizes she’s not afraid of him as she becomes aware their lives won’t be the same. As Zero continues to protect Abby from strange beings, they become closer as dreams help them understand their past. He has always felt cold and distant with no concern for himself. When he’s with Abby, he feels his heart beating as he feels warmth.
He also started having urges where his body wants Abby and the wolf demon inside of him wants her blood. He can’t think of not having her in his life as he tries to stay with her longer. He soon has to decide to continue the job he was hired for or protect the one he loves from the ones who hired him.
Excerpt:
Zero crashes through the door of Abby’s apartment, carrying her limp body in his arms. He pushes everything off her small dinner table, then places her gently on it. He puts his ear to her chest and doesn’t hear her heartbeat. He knows she’s fading fast and he needs to do something now. He gets a chance to remove the darts from her neck with one tug. They pull on her skin a little, but it slowly goes back down without any problems. Blood slowly drips out of the wounds. He knows that their poison is already streaming through her system. He has to move fast, so he can save her.
He tilts her head to the left, so the right side of her neck is more exposed. He leans forward, his lips hovering above the puncture wounds. He hesitates for a second, then shakes his head, planting his lips around the puncture wounds. He sucks, trying to get as much of the poison out of her. He appears to be in nirvana as it all appears familiar and comfortable to him. He just wants to keep sucking and nuzzle against her. He snaps out of it, realizing that he needs to stop, so he won’t kill her. He leans back and wipes her blood from his lips with the back of his hand.
Zero looks down at her. She seems to be resting peacefully. He closes his eyes, calming his breathing from the excitement of being near her. His canine fangs extend and he bites the inside of his lower lip. As Zero’s mouth fills up with blood, he opens his eyes and leans forward until he’s lingers over her partly open lips. He takes her head in his hand and steers her lips closer to his. He leans down, sealing her mouth with his, so that his blood filled her. He stills, waiting for her to respond. All of a sudden, Abby starts to swallow, his blood continuing to flow into her mouth. His body relaxes in relief that she’s still alive. Her eyes are still shut as her left hand lifts to meet his face. He startles at first, but leans his face into her hand, welcoming its touch. They both seem to slip into a nirvana and everything around them disappears.
